International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation elects prof. Jiří Bičák a Fellow

/ 27.03.2019 /

The International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation was founded in 1971 with the objective of promoting the study of general relativity and gravitation, and its application in astrophysics and cosmology. It currently has over 1500 registered individual members, alongside a number of national companies. In 2010, ISGRG management decided to introduce Fellowship status. Every third year (when its principal world-wide conference is held), 10 members are elected as Fellows by a special committee. Some of those to have been selected in the past include, e.g., Roger Penrose (2010), George Ellis (2013), Steven Hawking and Kip Thorne (2016). This year, Jiří Bičák of Charles University Faculty of Mathematics and Physics’ Institute of Theoretical Physics, is one of those elected, due to: “his wide-ranging contributions to mathematical general relativity, outstanding service to the international gravitational community, and his leadership in nurturing research in this field in the Czech Republic for the last five decades.”
